The value of the goods is not only the real cost price, but also freight, handling and customs costs must be added. In addition, the goods are sent together with goods from different purchases and it is a challenge to distribute the transport costs between the goods. The purchased goods are stored at the actual cost prices with transport costs.

If the goods are to be transported over longer distances, it is possible to control the location of the goods in a simple way by continuously changing the warehouse location.

When goods have to be transported, it presents financial and logistical challenges. With this solution, the correct transport costs are included in the goods’ inventory cost price. In addition to the real cost price, the value of the goods will also include freight, handling and customs costs. If you want an accurate calculation, using standard Dynamics will require manual work.

If the goods are transported together with several different goods, it is usually a challenge to distribute the transport costs. The solution will distribute the costs according to different principles (amount, weight or volume). The purchased goods are stored at the actual cost prices with transport costs.

In the case of long transport times, the goods can be received at a transfer warehouse and again automatically upon receipt at the final warehouse.

The solution contains 4 main areas:

#1 Correct stockvalue
The purchase price of the item must have added additional costs for freight, forwarding and customs. This is a comprehensive process and with our module you avoid extensive workflow with accounting, cost allocation and inventory adjustments. The module ensures that the inventory value reflects all associated invoices.

#2 Cost allocation
It is possible to allocate costs from freight, forwarding, handling and customs to one or more purchase orders for one or more items. The value of the items will then reflect the actual costs – quickly and easily. The allocation can be done according to different allocation keys, e.g. by weight or volume 

#3 Costs from various vendors

As invoices are registered, costs will be continuously distributed to the associated items.

#4 Traceability – Automatic change of warehouse location from handover to receipt in warehouse
When the supplier hands over the goods – it is automatically received at the transit warehouse. When the goods are transported to the final warehouse, the goods in the warehouse module are automatically moved to the final warehouse.

This can be illustrated with an example

Goods are ordered in China and must be sent to Denmark. The goods are shipped by ship. When the goods are unloaded on the ship, the company takes over ownership of the goods and in principle receives the goods at the warehouse “ship shipment”. At the same time, an invoice is received, the invoice is received and paid. When the goods are received at the final warehouse, the system automatically changes the warehouse to the final warehouse and retains its original warehouse entries. The module ensures that the warehouse is changed without having to make manual warehouse transfers.

The goods are now paid for and after a few days an invoice for freight, another invoice for handling costs and a third for forwarding costs arrive. If all costs came on one invoice from the same supplier, you could use an allowance, but in this case it is from 4 different suppliers. If in standard Microsoft Dynamics AX and Microsoft Dynamics 365FO you want the value of the inventory to reflect all 4 invoices, you will have to go through an extensive workflow with posting, cost distribution and warehouse adjustments to ensure this.
